  • Access has been denied because the licensed number of users has been reached.  Please contact your PVCS Version Manager administrator for further assistance.
  • Access to this project has been denied because your login account, USERNAME, was unable to obtain a license. Please contact your Serena administrator for further assistance.
  • Access has been denied due to a licensing problem.  Unable to reach License Server SERVERNAME (as defined in ISLV file ISLVINI_FILE).  Please contact your PVCS Version Manager administrator for further assistance.

How can these errors be resolved?

Resolution

  • Access has been denied because the licensed number of users has been reached.  Please contact your PVCS Version Manager administrator for further assistance.

All VersionManager and/or Professional licenses are in use. To solve, wait for another user to log off, or obtain additional licenses.

  • Access to this project has been denied because your login account, USERNAME, was unable to obtain a license. Please contact your PVCS Version Manager administrator for further assistance.

    • The License Server has no valid VersionManager and/or Professional licenses, or one of the keys is invalid / expired.

No such feature exists. (-5,412): VersionManager (USERNAME)

      1. Check the SLM.log file (or SerenaLicenseServer.log file for old SLM releases) to see if the server detected expired or invalid license keys. If found, remove them from the serena.lic file.
      2. Ensure at least one valid key exists in the serena.lic file.
      3. Restart the license server.

    • (Rare) The License Server administrator deployed a merant.opt file that explicitly prohibits the user from getting a license.

No such feature exists. (-5,412): VersionManager (USERNAME)

Check the merant.opt file on the License Server to see if it has a rule prohibiting this license request.

    • The License Server has named VersionManager and/or Professional licenses but they are all assigned to other users, or auto-add is disabled.

User/host not on INCLUDE list for feature. (-39,234): VersionManager_named (USERNAME)

      • If there are spare named licenses on the SLM License Server, use Manage Named Users to assign one to the user, or turn on Auto-add user IDs for named licenses.
      • Check the named license assignment on the License Server for users who may no longer be using Version Manager at all, remove their license assignment, then assign it to the user who cannot get a license.
      • If there are multiple licenses assign to a single user, see KB doc S140767 on how to avoid this, remove the duplicate assignment, then assign it to the user who cannot get a license.

  • Access has been denied due to a licensing problem.  Unable to reach License Server SERVERNAME (as defined in ISLV file ISLVINI_FILE).  Please contact your PVCS Version Manager administrator for further assistance.

    • Ensure the correct license server is being used. If the error is accompanied by a prompt, enter the correct license server machine there. If there is no prompt, stop the VM client, use ChangeLicenseServer (Windows) or vmreg (Linux/UNIX) to change the license server, then restart the client.

    • Ensure the license server machine can be accessed as specified (accessible from DNS, etc.)

    • Ensure the lmgrd and merant executables are both running on the license sever machine.

    • Ensure the client is able to access both the lmgrd and merant processes on the license server machine. If a firewall is involved, see KB doc S136346.

    • If the Version Manager client is far away from the SLM license server (ping round trip >= 100ms), see KB doc S137310.
