"Allow searching" causes issues for Multi-User field

If you have data in a Multi-user field and you then display the field again to add users, any existing selections are removed.

This behaviour occurs only when "allow searching" is selected for the field.

A possible workaround is to use "list box", where this works correctly, but that may not be possible for large sets of possible values.
