CMS-XML KM-Dim9: How to setup Dimensions without use the root privilege
The only exception would be to use LDAP authentication (authenticate against a Windows server). This should then allow you to start the UNIX listener as a non - root user . This is not a configuration we test though. Even with this setup you'd need to make sure that all item libraries (and files within them) are owned by the user running the listener (or hosted on another machine), and that the customer does not require any tertiary node (using nodename::) or build area support.
CMS-XML KM-Dim10 Reported Defect DEF111362: Dimensions 10 HPUX LISTENER install is incomplete
If you install the listener on HPUX 11.11 as root (i.e. using option 3 for an agent install), you will find that the listener does not start . This is bourne out by the fact that when you try and run dmpool, it reports cptux02/opt/serena/dimensions/10.1/cm/prog>./dmpool.x
CMS-XML SRA: Failed to start Serena RA : java.sql.SQLException: DERBY SQL error: SQLCODE: -1, SQLSTATE: XJ001, SQLERRMC: java.lang.NullPointerException^T^TXJ001.U
In the case above they were incorrectly owned by "root" rather than the user owning the rest of the installation, in this case "dmsys". Once the ownership was altered the startup ran through correctly. At this time it's not completely clear why the ownership had changed as the installation had been in use for sometime, but it's possible that an attempt to start the listener had been made whilst connected as user " root " rather than "dmsys".
CMS-XML 10.1.1 : z/os build => MDH16SL0001E P107 T492886608 Unable to create control connection
The max sockets field is the one which needs to be increased - 128 is a low value. Dimensions certainly uses these sockets at the very spot the error message is coming from; it uses these for communications between the root listener task (we call it the nanny process) and the main listener , and between the main listener and any library server started to handle either library requests (you probably don't do these), and library servers started to perform agent functions (getting and puttting files
