CMS-XML KM-DIM10: Self-signed OpenSSL certificate allows SDP "man in the middle" attack
concern SSL connections between Web Client and Dimensions Server. The self-signed certificate required by Serena Dimensions CM before it can use SSL encrypted network connections allow "man in the middle" attacks. Here it is an example that shows the vulnerability:
CMS-XML DimCM: dm.cfg: DM_FILE_ENCRYPTION parameter in dm.cfg has been deprecated.
Customers should use SSL over SDP , or SSL with HTTP Connector (with 14.3.3 and newer releases), to encrypt communications between client and server.
CMS-XML KM-Dim10: Detailed information on Item Library Cache Area and its restrictions of usage
9. SSL traffic encryption is in use File streaming is not supported when SDP traffic is SSL- encrypted and the underlying direct copy mechanism requires file streaming
CMS-XML KM-Dim7: What ports must I configure for Dimensions 7.0 to work through my firewall?
The enhancements included in the new SDP protocol provide higher performance and secure network communications via encryption (using a 32-bit private key algorithm to manage the encryption and decryption of passwords and data), as well as providing support for firewalls. The new protocol continues support "tertiary node" access where the user work area or item libraries are on a remote machine. A tertiary node is a node other than the current user's machine or Dimensions Server machine.
