There are some terms specific to LDAP that need to be discussed first. The following are terms used by Version Manager.
CMS-XML PVCS VM: How to Configure Version Manager to use LDAP over SSL (LDAPS)
If your LDAP server is configured to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), the Version Manager client needs to know about the SSL certificates being used, or needs to trust the Certificate Authority that signed the certificate using by the LDAP server. Without this you will receive errors, such as:

In Version Manager, if you have the LDAP login option selected and don't have the LDAP configuration file referenced in the project database configuration file, you will get the following error after attempting to login: VM - Unknown Exception at line 302 in VMNMAccessDatabase.cpp
CMS-XML PVCS VM: You cannot access this project because the LDAP User DN or Password is incorrect, or the Server cannot be reached as specified.
When attempting to login to an LDAP -enabled project database, one of the following errors is shown:
