Users are not getting email notifications and the ns.log gives the following error: ERROR 01-11-2019 14:56:42 [MailSendManagerImpl] -- Failed to connect to email server.
Depending on the settings in Configurator for the Notification server itself you can can select that the From and Reploy to Address show as the user that ran the transition or last modifier etc. If that user doesn't have an email address in their profile then the From field looks like below instead of a real email address.
If the URL that is embedded in the message has expired, the user must login to SBM and at that time a license would be used. You configure the expiration time for the token in the Notification System Settings tab in the Notifications view of the Mail Servers tab in SBM Configurator. For details, refer to the SBM Installation and Configuration Guide.
If you reorder the fields but the fields on the notification emails are still in the wrong order, check the Field Privileges for the state. For example, if the item is currently in the "New" state, check the order of the fields on the Field Privileges screen for the "New" state. If the "New" state already has other overrides configured, it will not pick up changes that were made at the workflow level.

You can use any mail server as a notification server and mail client, in the attached doc I use google mail as my notification server and mail client. If after you follow the setting and run into issue or recieve no mail, please look at the notification log - for 10.1.3.1 this is located here %program files%\Serena\SBM\Common\jboss405\server\default\work\jboss.web\localhost\notificationsrv\log\ns.log
...\SBM\Common\tomcat\server\default\webapps\notificationsrv\WEB-INF\classes directory and the restart SBM Tomcat When the notification server and the mail client are running, the contents of the file will look like the following: ns_paused=0
Date or date/time field values may appear blank in notification emails and an error like the one below may appear in the ns.log in SBM 10.1 and newer. ERROR 20-06-2012 13:48:46 [FileTemplate] -- failed to render tag "FIELDVALUE" with parameters "[FUTURE_ACTION_DATE]" for template "default.htm" ERROR 20-06-2012 13:48:47 [TagRenderer] -- While processing FIELDVALUE tag
