After installing Dimensions 14.2 which installs Tomcat 8, the Serena Common Tomcat service is slow to start.

In addition to checking the NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation registry key, check to make sure that the Application Experience Lookup Service is started. In some instances, this was found to be set to Manual and not yet started which will cause the Common Tomcat from installing properly with no errors.

CMS-XML Common errors in server.log when JBoss or Tomcat can't communicate with the database server.
The most common place to look for errors related to JBoss or Tomcat having a hard time communicating with the database server is to look in the server.log. You will most likely see the following errors when these services start.
CMS-XML Error "No service catalogs found" when trying to Customize the SSM catalog (Oracle only)
No service catalogs found Check the JBOSS log directory ([SBM Install]\ common \jboss405\server\default\log ) for the sla.log
