Description

If JBoss will not start after upgrade then please check your service_execution.log for the below error:

Failed to boot JBoss:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.jboss.system.server.ServerImpl
    at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:366)
    at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:355)
    at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
    at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:354)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:425)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:358)
    at org.jboss.system.server.ServerLoader.createServer(ServerLoader.java:285)
    at org.jboss.system.server.ServerLoader.load(ServerLoader.java:267)
    at org.jboss.Main.boot(Main.java:194)
    at org.jboss.Main$1.run(Main.java:490)
    at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:745)
Please use CMSClassUnloadingEnabled in place of CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled in the future

It is likely that some of the JBoss files were not
all laid down in ..SBM\Common\jboss405\lib\  . Please contact Support for them to check this for you and compare with a correct installation.

Resolution

Note: This is fixed in 10.1.5.2 for Windows 2008 and higher.  The following workaround is only necessary on Windows 2003 server.

This issue seems to be related to java.exe processes not being stopped prior to upgrade started and the install process not successfully stopping them. This can be avoided by restarting server and making sure no java.exe running before starting the upgrade.

Also should be fixable by doing a repair but only as long as JBOSS and java.exe are really all stopped.
