To tighten security in your installation, you can add a system setting that blocks certain types of files in File fields and in item attachments .

CMS-XML How can I stop a transition from happening if there isn't a file attachment on the item or an attachment of a certain type?
There is an option you can select for an individual transition that will require an attachment be added on that transition. You can do that in Composer in the Options section of the particular transition. This option is good if you only want to check that an attachment is added for that transition but if your goal is to make sure an item has an attachment later in your workflow or check that an attachment of a certain type has been added it's a little more complicated.

If there is an item with 100 attachments, and the user tries to attach another file/note/link/etc, the attachment will fail with an error "The number of Files has exceeded the maximum number allowed. Maximum: ( 100 ), Total: ( 100 )" If the attachment as being added as part of the Notification Server process, the ns.log will have an error such as:

The problem is easy to duplicate. The way around it was to first, go into Windows Explorer, Tools | Folder Options | File Types | Find the WAV files .
